Aimee Winder Newton

Aimee Winder Newton grew up in West Valley City and Taylorsville. She graduated from Taylorsville High and attended BYU Idaho and the University of Utah. She married Matt 28 years ago and they have four children, one daughter-in-law, a mini golden doodle named Ripley, and two grand dogs.


Aimee currently represents Taylorsville, Murray, West Jordan and West Valley City on the Salt Lake County Council. She was a 2020 candidate for Utah Governor and was the first woman elected as chair of the council.  
Aimee works tirelessly to defend the quality of life in Salt Lake County while protecting your hard earned dollars.

  • ‘Budget hawk’ who reviews the County budget, holding government accountable for every dime.

  • Advocate for mental health resources, criminal justice reform and safe neighborhoods.

  • Founded and chairs the Salt Lake County Intergenerational Poverty Task Force, bringing together state, county, city and school districts to work to break the cycle of poverty.

  • Working on solutions for cleaner air, affordable housing, open space, traffic mitigation and better jobs.


Aimee has served previously as a planning commissioner, a city communications director and an executive for a biotech company. She’s been a small business owner for the past 20 years. She is currently director of the Office of Families for the state of Utah.
